Green Telecom History - Established 1989

On 10 March 1876 Alexander Graham Bell spoke to his assistant Thomas Watson the first recognisable words ever transmitted by telephone, "Mr Watson, come here, I want you". This first articulate sentence was transmitted over 100 feet of wire.

113 years Later, Green Telecom was formed by the current directors in 1989. The companies current Managing Director, Steve Hayden, had previously completed a three year BT engineering apprenticeship and a obtained a BTEC in Telecommunications.

Green Telecom were primarily an engineering company installing telephone systems for other telecoms sales companies across the UK and quickly grew to an engineering force of 50 plus engineers covering installation and maintenance for many of the south east of England Telecoms companies. Alan Stewart joined the company in 1991 and Mike Simth in 1992.

The focus in 1995 was to move in to the system sales arena and to get things right first time, something that was not happening with some of the companies they installed for.

In June 2001, Marlon Laing and James Anderson joined the team and the company won the prestigious 'dealer of the year' award at the comms dealer awards ceremony, and in 2002 Mo Suleman joined the sales team.

In 2003, Green Telecom were again nominated for an award, this time as reseller of the year for their quality Calls and line rental services.

In October 2005, They relocated to newly purchased offices in Chesham Buckinghamshire, with state of the art telecommunications and IT wiring and systems with full call centre functionality for their customer services and a fully equipped Customer demonstration suite. Both Chrissie Jarvis and Dan Whitten joined the team at the new offices.

In June 2008, Green Telecom launched their tree planting program to offset carbon dioxide emissions helping to prevent climate change and creating space for wildlife.

Throughout 2008, Green Telecom operated as a Carbon Positive company. Their carbon footprint was calculated and (over) offset to a Wind Energy Project in Harshnath, India. The objective of this carbon offset project is development, design, engineering, procurement, finance, construction, operation and maintenance of wind power projects totaling 4.8 MW wind power projects in the Indian state of Rajasthan to provide reliable, renewable power to the Rajasthan state electricity grid which is part of the Northern regional electricity grid. The project will lead to reduced greenhouse gas emissions because it displaces electricity from fossil fuel based electricity generation plants. The total estimated reductions from this carbon offset project are 16,591 tonnes of CO2e
